In plain English

There are three kinds of data stream: web, iOS app and Android app. For a website, you create a web data stream, give it your site's URL and get a Measurement ID to use in the Google tag.

For most websites, one web data stream per property is the right setup. Extra streams for staging sites or subdomains usually make reporting harder, not easier.

Enhanced measurement is configured separately for each web data stream.

Example

A business runs example.com.au and shop.example.com.au. Rather than creating two streams, it tracks both through one web data stream, so a visitor moving from the main site to the shop stays part of one journey.
